Autism Awareness Day

This Workshop is one day in duration and focuses on people who have the neurological condition often referred to as autism or sometimes Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We can also broaden the day to include a broader look at Neurodivergent people in general and how we can all work together effectively.

The word "Autism" surrounded by other words including behaviour, social, communication, repetative, disorder, education and more.

and Neurodiversity

Our Workshop Description

We already make reasonable adjustments to help people with all sorts of different needs who may have a sore back, so we ensure they can have the right chair, or perhaps, like my sister, they are partially sighted, so you may offer speech to text technology on their PC and various accommodations for those who use a wheelchair and so on.

These are just a few of the many things that considerate and inclusive organisations do for their colleagues.

“Some” of our Typical Content

(Like all our workshops, the content can be edited to meet your organisational requirements)

All our Autism Awareness days are facilitated by our MD Mac Macdonald, who is diagnosed as autistic.

  • What language is used, and why does it matter?
  • What neurological differences come under the umbrella term neurodiversity?
  • Why do many people struggle to work with, get on with or manage/lead someone who is neurodiverse?
  • We have a short video for you to watch about neurodiversity.
  • We ask participants to work in small groups to discuss the cards we hand out.
  • Mac shares some of his challenges, what can trigger him, why he can sometimes upset others and how he manages that.
  • We discuss common strengths which some neurodiverse people possess but others don’t.
  • We look at common challenges neurodiverse people can face at work and ask you to discuss options to help them.
  • We explore “Reasonable Adjustments” and ask you to see different perspectives.
  • We chat about Intersectionality, Allyship, Equality vs Equity and our Moccasin Approach®

Who Should Attend and Why?

Who? - Anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of the world that many neurodiverse people live in, the challenges they face, how those challenges are triggered and how we can all help in minimising or possibly even removing some completely.

All those who are neurodivergent or believe they may be, and those who really want to make a difference in how they communicate with neurodiverse colleagues. (Mac will happily answer any questions he can or possibly point people to other resources. He also shares his experiences of the diagnosis process and how he found it).

Why? - Regardless of who we work with or for, we must all do everything we can to work well together and build and maintain excellent working relationships.

When we truly understand things from the perspective of others (our Moccasin Approach®), we are far better able to communicate and work with them effectively and efficiently.

We also need to be aware of the relevant laws (Equality Act 2010) and how we can ensure that we are all making the reasonable adjustments that we can and supporting all our colleagues regardless of their abilities.

Our Delivery Options

When you consider the content we deliver, we are sure you will understand why we always prefer to deliver our workshops, courses and programmes face-to-face.

Face-to-face workshops and courses can be held at a location of your choice or, if you wish, a central UK location. For example, we use the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham, located directly across from the Birmingham New Street train station.

We can deliver our workshops, courses and programmes online, although this sometimes means splitting elements into manageable learning events to suit the online environment.

All Expenses

ALL our expenses are included in our daily rate, so no other charges will be applied (unless additional add-ons are required, such as catch-up sessions when someone misses a workshop).
